The Romance of Winter Weddings

There is something rather magical about a wedding in the Winter months; the darker days and cosy atmosphere create a really romantic wedding. With beautiful rich colour palettes, roaring log fires and an abundance of shimmering candlelight, Winter weddings can be truly breathtaking. They have become increasingly popular over recent years and with many couples postponing their Spring and Summer 2020 weddings due to the Coronavirus, many have chosen to reschedule to the end 2020 or the beginning of 2021, rather than wait a year or more to get married.

Tis the season to get married

If you are looking to plan a romantic Winter wedding we can help you design a wedding that epitomises everything that you love about the season, incorporating striking fabrics, opulent festive designs, romantic lighting and decadent dark colour tones. Planned for Perfection will be on hand to guide you through every detail of your wedding planning journey and help you to create the most idyllic wedding celebration.

Christmas and New Year weddings are incredibly popular too - the glitz, glamour and sparkle of the festive season, alongside the rich velvet colours and metallic tones associated with Christmas time, make for a truly magical celebration.

Needless to say, a Winter wedding in the U.K. is likely to be cold, quite possibly wet and you may even be lucky enough to enjoy a dusting of snow! So, rather than worry about the British weather, simply embrace the elements! Below are some top tips to help you ensure a wonderful winter wedding:

  • Brides, we suggest that you purchase a faux fur wrap, wool pashmina or a long sleeve wedding dress to keep warm, and a mulled wine, spiced cider or hot Toddy on arrival is always a welcome treat for guests!

  • In the U.K. it gets darker a lot earlier during the winter months, so it’s incredibly important to invest the right lighting throughout the day. Fairy lights, lanterns, star-lit ceiling drapes and candles not only offer light, they ensure a warm ambience and intimate atmosphere in any room. We work with experienced production companies who can provide the most amazing lighting options.

  • Talk to your photographer about the best light for your photographs. You may want to start your wedding day a little earlier to make the most of natural day light or consider a first look before the ceremony so that you can take your portrait pictures  in the day light.

  • You don’t have to wait until the end of the evening for fireworks during the Winter months, you can include a surprise display before or immediately after the wedding breakfast and before the evening party commences.

  • Invest in colour coordinated umbrellas for the bridal party, they make for fabulous photographers and will ensure that you can all go outside for photographs, without getting wet!

  • Talk to your hair dresser and make up artist about them staying throughout the day to look after you, just incase you get a little windswept. Do also remember waterproof make up ... for rainy days, as well as for happy tears!

  • You will still need a back up plan! Summer weddings always have a wet weather plan and in the winter we still need a B plan! Allow extra time to get from the church to the reception should it rain or snow... inclement weather can mean delays, so do bear this in mind and discuss these back up plans with all of your suppliers.
