Luxury Wedding Cakes Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium
Luxury wedding cake designers, Elizabeth's Cake Emporium is renowned for making incredible wedding cakes for the rich and famous and we have been lucky enough to have worked with founder Elizabeth Solaru on numerous occasions, when she has created the most beautiful celebration cakes for our clients in London and Europe.
Elizabeths cake making journey started many years ago, before which she had two other successful careers as a Scientist and Headhunter. Working in those settings gave Elizabeth a strong work ethic and taught her about confidentiality, tenacity and professionalism. These traits, combined with her creativity and passion for designing beautiful cakes, led her to set up her multi award-wining London based cake business. Elizabeth believes that one of the most important skills that she has is simply listening to what the client is truly saying. Having worked with her, we know that she has a way of listening to couples and connecting with their wedding dreams, to create extraordinary wedding cakes that works harmoniously with their wedding story, both in design and flavour. Like our weddings, Elizabeths cakes are exquisitely designed and her attention to detail is second to none, which is why she is one of our trusted wedding suppliers.
For many of Elizabeth’s affluent clients, a luxury wedding cake is not just any other cake, it is a statement piece and a reflection of their personalities and tastes. The wedding cake takes guests on a journey of all five senses and is snapshot of that specific part of their life story. Like many of our weddings, confidentiality is key - Non Disclosure Agreements, Confidentiality Agreements and sometimes a verbal agreement not to reveal anything is crucial in building trust and an honourable reputation for discretion. We are thrilled to share below some of the events that Elizabeth and our owner and creative director Jane Riddell, have worked at together around the world, as well as some of our favourite cakes designed by Elizabeth for her discerning clients.
An EVENT AT THE SAVOy, London
Elizabeth made the most exquisite 8-tiered white and gold statement cake for an evening of oppulence at the Savoy. The cake stood at over 6 foot tall and was decorated with white sugar rose appliques & dressed with pink sugar flowers, each meticulously handcrafted by Elizabeth herself. The cake was placed on a plinth and framed by a floral tunnel connecting the two rooms where the event was held and took centre stage on the dancefloor during dinner, before being moved so that guests could dance later in the evening.
DESTINATION WEDDING IN SPAIN
Our bride had very specific requirements with regards to the colours of her wedding cake, but trusted Elizabeth entirely and requested that she make a truly unique and bespoke cake, inkeeping with the plans and designs of the wedding day. Working alongside ourselves and luxury wedding florist, Paula Rooney, Elizabeth incorporated the wedding colours of white, gold, pale pink and fuschia and designed a floral wedding cake of epic proportions! She even seamlessly incorporated the pink ombre effect sugar roses into a cascading wrap which met the bed of real flowers and no one could tell the difference between the real flowers and the sugar flowers.
A PARTY AT THE LANESBOROUGH, London
Elizabeths designed an incredible cake for an evening fit for royalty at The Lansborough in London. The 8 tiered cake was inspired by the wedgewood blue and peach ceiling in the Belgravia room, one of the private dining rooms at The Lanesborough, where it sat on the table completely covered with a cascading ‘cloth’ of peach and pink roses. The cake also featured mouldings of the baroque ceiling design, hand-painted clouds, handmade peach and pink sugar roses, piped scroll work and a hand-painted royal crest. Not only was it an impressive statement cake, the cascading floral table cloth was a talking point amongst guests.
DESTINATION WEDDING IN ITALY
Elizabeth travels all over the world with her wedding cakes and she joined us in Italy, when we were commissioned by Aquaptra Hotel and Spa to showcase their wedding and event space for UK couples looking for their idylic wedding in Italy. Elizabeth made three fabulous cakes for threee events - a limoncello inspired wedding, La Dolca Vita inspired wedding and an Olive grove elopement
As well as the gorgeous cakes that Elizabeth has made for Planned for Perfection Wedding and Event clients, there are so many amazing cakes that she has made over the years, so we thought we would share some of Elizebeths showstopping designs:
WEDDING AT PALAIS LIECHTENSTEIN
Elizabeths was working with our friend, floral designer Karen Tran event designer to design a cake for a wedding at the Palais Liechtenstein in Vienna, Austria. The brief from the American couple was that the cake design had to match the gold and white splendour of the palace and they wanted the shape and construction to be similar to the wedding cake of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The kaleidoscope of gold male cherubs, gold swags, gilt adornments and garlands, scrolling tendrils, candelabra, the pattern on the vaulted ceilings, floral motifs and even the elaborate patterned parquetry of the floors of the palace ballroom were all reflected on the cake. To achieve the high baroque and rococo look, Elizabeth created a number of custom made silicone moulds specifically for the cake and also created a particular shade of antique gold mix that would make the cake stand out from the unique gold surroundings. The cake was 20 tiers in total, with 12 base tiers, a 7-foot height and an overall width of 4 feet - a truly spectacular achievement!
WEDDINGS IN MOROCCO
The brief was to create two distinct luxury wedding cakes for two distinct settings. The first setting was in the Moroccon desert and the second was a private palace. For the desert wedding cake, Elizabeth envisioned a cake shaped like a stack of cushions, taking her inspiration from the cushions and pillows that are abound in a traditional Moroccan tent. The unusual 6 tiered wedding cake featured intricate geometric cutouts and patterns typical of Moroccan tile design and a metallic gold base colour for the cake to bring in opulence.
LUXURY WEDDING CAKEs
The three cakes below show how once again, Elizabeth can create unique wedding cakes that seamlessly work with any wedding style.
The wedding cake on the left that was for a wedding at Stationer’s Hall London, for the wedding for 2 doctors who had been let down by another cake maker. They both loved flowers, bright colours and gold and wanted a double cascade sugar flower drape on their cake with sugarflowers to match their real wedding flowers perfectly - needless to say, with Elizabeths incredible talent, guests were once again amazed that the sugar flowers weren’t actually real!
The middle cake was designed for destination wedding in a Moroccan palace in Marrakesh. The brief was for a colourful, elegant grand wedding cake. The table cloth was a traditional bridal blanket and Elizabeth fell in love with the texture and kept the cake tiers simple and elegant, but bright and beautiful, which worked perfectly.
The beautiful wedding cake on the right is another destination wedding cake. This was taken to a stunning French Chateau Challain in the Loire Valley. Elizabeth created a traditional white wedding cake, which was glamorous, grand and hand painted - I love how the flowers by WildAbout frame the cake.
Elizabeth has also written a book, OPULENCIA: Artisan Baking & Sugarcraft, in which she shares details on her journey to being one of the worlds most renowned cake makers and a thriving Enterpreneur.
